Below are some of our contributions to the community and humanity
Through the school adoption program, our Foundation has adopted 1 public primary school; Muslim Model Nursery & Primary School Ago-Oko Abeokuta, Ogun State. Since 2016, the Foundation has been supporting the school through student enrichment, infrastructural support and co-curricular activities. Some of the support the Foundation has given includes the renovation of 8 classrooms and school compound, furnishing and stocking the school library with books, equipping the school’s computer room, equipping the school’s science laboratory, furnishing the school’s sick bay, providing less-privileged children with school uniforms and bags, providing teachers with learning aids and support, providing guidance counselling and mentorship to the pupils.
Also, as part of the school enrichment support, the foundation established and sponsors various SDG clubs at our adopted school; including the Girls Guide and Boys Scouts, book club, spelling bee club, art club and math club. The purpose of these clubs is to contribute to the pupils’ education through a value system. It helps the pupils develop life skills, take up leadership roles and explore their creativity through outdoor activities.
We also have a Literacy, Comprehension & Critical Thinking program, which we run under the school adoption program. This is focused on helping the pupils understand what they are being taught and learn in a fun way. We conduct an assessment every session to select outstanding pupils who are awarded our secondary school scholarships.
The empowerment program is an annual project that began in 2022. At the maiden edition, The Foundation empowered 1000 widows with work tools they could use to earn a living. We visited five states nationwide including; Oyo, Ondo, Ilorin, Edo and Kaduna, where we gave them tools such as freezers, sewing machines, pepper mills and start-up funds.
The following year, the foundation empowered over 500 women in Lagos state with not only work tools and a start-up fund but also had an intense 3-day training on how to make pastries they could sell and an advanced class for tailors in modern designs and styling. The foundation has also empowered women in business by providing grants to small-scale businesses that need funds to expand them.
At Abdul-Lateef & Sanni Foundation, we believe that quality and impactful education are essential to improving the literacy level in Nigeria. We have many young Nigerians who aspire to be professionals in various academic fields but do not have access to quality education. In our little way, we try to help them achieve their aspirations by providing students with scholarships. Our scholarship program is of 2 types;
The right exposure to tools and skills essential to thrive in the 21st Century workplace are digital skills, leadership skills and teamwork. At the Abdul-Lateef & Sanni Foundation, our mission is to ensure students who do not have an opportunity to learn these skills have access to them through us.
We have a Digital Skills and Community Development training program targeting Lagos public secondary schools. The Learning and Development Centre, trains students in digital skills and community development.
The training is designed to develop students in the areas of critical thinking, problem-solving, digital literacy, civic engagement and leadership.
The foundation joined the celebration of the international day of the girl child in 2021, we use this medium to campaign for the right of the girl child to quality education and encourage young girls who are in school to pursue careers and goals that were previously unattainable by females.
The foundation has visited over 20 public schools in Lagos state and engaged the service of certified professionals to talk to girls about their sexual reproductive rights, personal hygiene and encourage girls to have ambitions and see it through.
The foundation also contributes to our communities by providing access to portable and clean water in areas where they do not have such. So far, we have dug and installed five solar boreholes in different communities across Nigeria.
As part of our community-based project, we visited Isabo community in Abeokuta, Ogun state, for a free medical outreach.
We reached out to over 600 indigenous people of the community, where we carried out free medical check-ups for diabetes and hypertension, we raised awareness of the importance of monitoring their health and gave out medications to all who needed them.
We enlisted the services of a team of doctors, nurses and medical laboratory technicians for the project.
